Emetic Treatment

Vamana means literally vomiting, it is a delicate procedure and free of pain to get rid of excess Kapha and Ama associated with Kapha.

The herbs used to produce the emetic effect are the master key to a successful practice of Vamana. The effect of the herbs is administered as the fire which is moving ever upward, creating a movement that carries ama  upwards and takes it away from the site of Kapha in the stomach.

Vamana is not for everyone, a good Vaidya (Doctor in Ayurveda), will always be cautious in making the patient go through this process, which consists in expelling the impure Doshas through the mouth, often in the form of undigested food or other manifestations of excess of Kapha and Pitta.
In this case, should be kept in mind factors such as age, Prakriti, the temperament and physical strength of the patient.
